Stop Looking in the Mirror

You do not need better self-esteem. You need a better view of God.
The culture preaches that you are “enough.” The Bible declares that apart from Christ, you are “dead in trespasses and sins” (Eph. 2:1). The modern gospel tells you to ascend to find life; Jesus Christ tells you to descend to find it.
Scripture warns that God actively “opposes the proud” (James 4:6). To build your life on your own “self-worth” is to position yourself as an adversary of the Almighty. True humility isn’t thinking less of yourself; it is thinking of yourself less because you are too busy gazing at the glory of Jesus.
The cure for your anxiety isn’t in the mirror. It is in the Man of Sorrows who emptied Himself (Phil. 2:7) so that you could be filled.
The Puritan Prayer: “Lord, let me sink in my own estimation, that Christ may rise in my sight.”
